‘SA higher than throughout apartheid even underneath Zuma’ – Helen Zille

Democratic Alliance (DA) federal chairperson Helen Zille said that South Africa is in a greater state now than it was throughout apartheid.

In a current look on the Podcast and Chill, the previous DA chief defined her controversial tweet from 2017, which sparked vital outrage.

Zille had tweeted that the legacy of colonialism was not “only negative,” arguing that it contributed to the institution of an impartial judiciary and the supply of piped water.

“For those claiming legacy of colonialism was ONLY negative, think of our independent judiciary, transport infrastructure, piped water,” Helen Zille wrote on X (Twitter) six years in the past.

During the podcast, Macgyver Mukwevho (MagG) mentioned the controversial tweet made by the previous Western Cape mayor.

Helen Zille speaks on colonialism tweets

“Do you still believe South Africa was better under Apartheid?” he mentioned

“When did I say that?” Zille responded.

“This is a total 100 percent lie, I will give you a million rand if you can find a tweet where I said the country was better under apartheid. The country was much better after apartheid and even under Jacob Zuma, the country was better than under apartheid,” he mentioned.

“It’s just ridiculous how you say one perfectly honest thing that is true and it grows legs and arms and horns and devils’ tails…nonsense.”

Helen Zille mentioned that her tweets have been taken out of context.

“I said the legacy of colonialism is not only negative. Obviously, it means a lot was negative but let’s keep the stuff that wasn’t. Formal education is a legacy, hospitals are a legacy, and electricity generation is a legacy,” she mentioned.
