John Steenhuisen dragged over R3m blue-lights convoy
Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen has been dragged on social media over a current clip of him vowing to make use of “cost-saving” vehicles and shun unnecessary taxpayer expenditure.
This comes amid a current departmental admission that the minister has afforded a number of multi-million rand luxurious automobiles fitted with a blue-lights sign system.

In a National Assembly assembly, ActionSA questioned DA chief John Steenhuisen – who’s the Minister of Agriculture – to offer readability on his modes of transport throughout official engagements.
This after the opposition chief has beforehand shunned using different authorities officers who use luxurious automobiles fitted with blue gentle sign methods.
The social gathering has now acquired a written reply wherein the minister admits basically to doing what he has condemned others for.
The response claimed that John Steenhuisen makes use of a R2,8 million convoy. This consists of an Audi Q7, Toyota Prado, and BMW X5. Ironically, all of the “executive vehicles are fitted with blue lights and the appropriate signalling systems.”
The ministry refers back to the National Road Traffic Act wherein “VIP Protection Officers are appointed under the South African Police Act and execute their duties, which include but are not limited to the transportation of executives, with the official vehicles provided and fitted for the purpose”.
The ministry justified that the automobiles had been procured from the earlier administration.

Following the admission, Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen quickly turned a trending subject on the X platform.
Many X customers revisited a clip wherein the Government of National Unity (GNU) minister boasted about driving a cost-effective automobile.
In the clip, the minister was being chauffeured in a Toyota Corolla to a National Executive Council assembly in November. The minister was approached by a journalist, who requested: “People are driving black, German-made vehicles. You are driving a Toyota Corolla. Why are you subjecting your self to modesty?
John answered, “It’s a cost-saving mechanism. More money will be spent on citizens and not on politicians.”
On X, South Africans reminded John Steenhuisen about his earlier feedback
“This did not age well,” commented one tweep.
