Hawks ask NDPP to assessment determination to withdraw Kodwa’s corruption prices
The National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) advocate Shamila Batohi is ready to assessment the choice to withdraw the corruption prices in opposition to former sport, arts, and tradition minister Zizi Kodwa.
The National Prosecuting Authority confirmed that the workplace of the NDPP obtained a letter from the Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigation (also called the Hawks) requesting Batohi to assessment the choice of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) South Gauteng, advocate Andrew Chauke to withdraw Kodwa’s corruption prices.
NDPP TO REVIEW DECISION TO WITHDRAW ZIZI KODWA’S CORRUPTION CHARGES
On Friday, 1 November, Chauke withdrew the fees of Corruption in Contravention of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act (PRECCA) in opposition to Kodwa and his co-accused businessman Jehan Mackay.
Chauke withdrew the fees in opposition to former Minister Zizi Kodwa and his co-accused after receiving representations submitted on behalf of the accused.
As beforehand reported, in June, Kodwa and Mackay were charged with corruption as the previous minister and member of Parliament allegedly obtained R1.6 million in kickbacks from Enterprise Outsourcing Holdings (EOH) because the IT and software program firm scored tenders from varied authorities departments.
NPA spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga mentioned when it comes to Section 179 (5) (d) of the Constitution, the NDPP could assessment a choice to prosecute or to not prosecute after session with the related DPP and after taking representations inside a specified interval from the accused individual; the complainant; some other individual or get together

“The NDPP will review the decision in line with the above-stated legal framework and communicate the decision accordingly,” Mhaga mentioned.
